TAFICO EMPLOYEES URGED TO BE INNOVATIVE
The Director of Monitoring and Evaluation of the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries, Mr. Daudi Mayeji, has urged employees of the Tanzania Fisheries Corporation (TAFICO) to be innovative in providing ideas and suggestions on the development of the organization in order to achieve its institutional goals.
Mr. Mayeji made these remarks on April 8, 2025, during the launch of workers' council at TAFICO's office located at Ras Mkwavi in Kigamboni, Dar es Salaam.
Mr. Mayeji, who represented the Deputy Minister of Livestock and Fisheries at the event, stated that the workers' council is a vital link in achieving the organization’s objectives if employees are fully involved in creating productive projects.
“I urge employees to provide creative ideas that aim to promote the organization so that it can achieve its goals of conducting fishing activities in the deep sea, therefore generating income for the broader benefit of our nation,” said Mr. Mayeji.
He also emphasized the government's intention, through the ministry, to continue strengthening the organization by ensuring it attracts skilled employees with expertise in business, fishing vessel operations, and finance for investment purposes.
Presenting the institution’s implementation report on behalf of the Acting Chief Executive Officer, the Manager of Corporate Services, Mr. Ahmed Byabato, mentioned that the establishment of the workers' council is part of implementing the broader concept of good governance.
Mr. Byabato stated that the council launched today will start working immediately, with one of its first tasks being the review and approval of TAFICO’s budget for the 2025/26 financial year, which is estimated at 5.48 billion shillings.
“Employee participation through the council will enable shared ownership of the activities carried out by the organization, thus bringing positive results in the execution of the existing plans,” said Mr. Byabato.
The workers' council is a body established under the Employment and Labour Relations Act No. 6 of 2004 and the Government Notice No. 1 of 1970 regarding the involvement of employees in various institutional matters.
